Community

Community Overview
When teachers stand before their classes, humbly as striving human beings worthy of imitation, inspired, and striving to meet their students with developmentally appropriate work, the children learn and grow joyfully. When children grow joyfully, a community of families grows with the students and teachers. And a community forms, and thrives.

A thriving community is at the heart of Eastside Community School. Our continued wish for the school is simply that we all continue to receive the gifts of this education: the opportunity to grow, not only as individuals, but together, as a community. And that we are able to meet the joys and challenges each school year brings with the same openness and curiosity we observe in new first graders.

We hope you will join us!

Class Coordinators

Each class at Eastside Community School has one or two parent coordinators, or class coordinators, each year. They are a great resource for new families!

Our class coordinators are similar to a PTA. Each coordinator is a parent or caregiver volunteer. The role is focused on building belonging. The more we belong the more we want to give back! The more supported our teachers feel, the more the school feels like one unit. Class Coordinators strive to let the teachers know that they can count on them for support in any needs they may have.

Another role of the class coordinator is to establish a strong relationship amongst the parents of each class. Some classes will have organized playdates. Coordinators also facilitate group chats for parents. Class coordinators manage volunteers and are the reason we have so many wonderful events each year.

Volunteering
When we say that our parents, staff and students form a community, we mean it! Eastside Community School simply couldn’t offer the wide variety of events, activities, and enrichment for students and families without the time and effort of our community of volunteers.

Our generous community members work with administrators, teachers, and class coordinators to hold events, organize, build, mend, setup, clean up, and more. Our volunteers create a circle of generosity that permeates our culture. Community volunteers are the foundation of ECS life. The more we give back, the more we build belonging and community.

We treasure our community, and our community is a treasure!

If you have a little time to give, we would love to work with you. Please contact us to learn about current and future volunteer opportunities.
