Eastside Community School is nestled on five acres in the Sammamish Plateau area of Issaquah, Washington (30 minutes east of Seattle). We serve internationally diverse students and families from Pre-school through Grade 12. We seek a passionate and dedicated Strings or Orchestra Teacher for the 2024-25 school year. Be our newest colleague!

Share your warmth, enthusiasm, and love of music with our eager students, helping to build their strengths in areas of cognition, physical, and social development. Bring your positivity, organization, and effective communication skills for working in partnership with a thriving faculty and highly engaged parent body. Bring your ability to work supportively and flexibly.

The faculty circle at ECS engages deeply with how to keep our teaching alive and dynamic – encouraging the type of “living thinking” that brings forth new ideas in our students, faculty, and community alike. With both the stability of an established community, and the fresh pioneer spirit of a relatively new Board and identity, we find ourselves in a unique position of being able to draw on the strength of the past, and to also ask ourselves questions like what it truly means to be a Waldorf-inspired school at this particular juncture in human history, and how we can go beyond labels or dogma to meet the lived experience of our students each day.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Music, Education, or related field required

  • Proven ability to present a dynamic and creative music curriculum with multiple string instruments

  • Experience teaching grade school age students

  • Strong classroom management and organization skills

  • Waldorf Teaching Certificate and/or Waldorf teaching experience preferred

  • Washington State Teaching Certificate desired

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience and teaching certification. Benefits include dental and health insurance, partial tuition remission, and the possibility for professional development support and mentoring. Continue an established program to include all students in grades 4 to 8 (one class section in each grade) two times a week for 45 minutes each. Lead some performances during the school year to coincide with school festivals and traditions. Current planning calls for .75 FTE with 1.0 FTE (Full Time) possible with work in other areas like substitution or administrative support.

Recruitment and screening of applications are ongoing until the position is filled. To ensure full consideration we encourage candidates to complete and submit applications promptly. Please note that ECS reserves the right -- and may exercise the option -- to make a hiring decision prior to the conclusion of the recruitment process. Full job descriptions are available upon request.

Our inspired and cohesive faculty and administration are deeply committed to providing our students with an exemplary Waldorf-inspired education. We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to Eastside Community School.
